Abbots Langley Tough Ten started 27 years ago, originally to raise money for the charity MENCOP.

Over these years, its support has widened to provide funds to help local clubs and charities continue with their good work, to assist schools with special projects and individual beneficiaries to improve their quality of life.

All funds raised are distributed and the committee members are volunteers.

Please join us this year, on Sunday, October 4th and help us help those less fortunate than ourselves!

BENEFICIARIES

Over the years, ALTT has contributed funds to many local clubs, charities and schools.

The Committee is keen to receive requests from individuals for help to provide aid and/or equipment that they are unable to fund themselves.

In the past, ALTT has provided specialised beds, hoists, wheelchairs, tricycles and other equipment.  For a paralysed artist, ALTT funded a special wheelchair to hold him upright for his painting work.  ALTT worked very hard to support Pete’s Fund – for a local man who needed life-saving brain surgery – and have contributed to many other worthy causes.

Last year, our major contribution was to the Hospice of St. Francis.  Although based in Berkhamsted, their facilities have been used by many residents of Abbots Langley and the neighbouring villages and the value of their caring work is appreciated.

Please contact ALTT should you know of any potential deserving beneficiary.

RUNNERS

Numbers of runners have increased steadily over the years to the extent that the 1.5K – mostly a fun run for the very young – was hampering the safe running of the other events and  after much discussion,  we have been forced to drop that event this year.

In the 10K last year, a longstanding course record was broken by J. Parslow with a new time of 32.23.  First female home was V. Webster in a time of 36.19.

In the 5K, E. McKenzie was across the line first in 17.06 and the first female was V.Walker in 18.54.

Runners come from all over the country for the Tough Ten and many consider it an important part of their training schedule for marathon events.

Medals are present to all runners, and trophies and prizes to race winners.

Schools can enter teams and the sponsorship money raised is split 50/50 with the ALTT, so it is a good fund raising opportunity with little work involved.

CURRY NIGHT

Every year ALTT has a Curry Night at The Viceroy Brasserie in Abbots Langley, to raise further funds for the event.

The date this year will be Monday, September 21st.  Tickets will be £16.50 and will be available from Committee Members, Langley Travel and Spicer McColl.
